Leschi Elementary Food Drive - Through MIPC (Mercer Island Presbyterian Church)
With SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits expiring, many families and children will lose an essential resource for food.
Right now, we know of 35 families at Leschi Elementary, MIPC's Partner School, who will be losing SNAP benefits. By checking with their partners, they have found that the best way to help support our neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity is by donating the following items/food:
• Rice (especially basmati or jasmine)
• Whole-wheat pasta + pasta sauce (no alcohol)
• Canned beans/chickpeas/lentils
• Canned tuna/chicken/salmon
• Canned vegetables & canned fruit (in juice)
• Peanut butter (or other nut butters)
• Cooking oil & key spices/curry sauce (cumin, turmeric, etc)
• Dates or dried fruit (apricots, figs)
• Shelf‐stable milk or plant‐based milk alternatives
• Whole grain cereal or oatmeal
• Hygiene/basic personal care items
• $25 Safeway gift card
*Note that students often carry these donations home from school on the bus, so remember this when choosing a manageable package size*
Where do I drop off my donations?
Please drop off all donations at the front office of the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.
